Ecuadorian Navy Sends 1855 Schooner To Investigate Chinese Fishing Fleet

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR- Navy Commander Rear Admiral Darwin Jarrin lifts the sails on the 166 year old schooner for the Galápagos Marine Reserve and outlying areas to carry out special operations and undercover surveillance of the Chinese flagged fishing fleet of roughly 300 vessels.

“Thanks to our oil and shrimp export relations with China, we have the funds for one of the most technologically advanced Navies in Latin America. Just look at this second hand, civil war era beauty we picked up at a U.S. boatyard auction. We're lucky to have this relationship which we can better protect our natural resources.”

Satellite tracking data from outside sources suggests the Chinese fleet’s location shifts along the edges of the Galápagos Marine Reserve, where the raping of International Waters is mostly legal, but analysts remain baffled that a majority of the fleet’s Automatic Identification Systems or AIS continuously go dark for a range of 12 to 24 hours at a time.

When Admiral Jarrin was notified of the suspicious maritime behavior, he responded, “Could be wild racoons on board chewing up their wires, maybe a bad fuse or two. We don’t like to jump to conclusions but if anything fishy is going on out there, we 'll have our cannons ready.”
