LA PAZ, MEX- A recent research survey on Espiritu Santo revealed a peculiar rendezvous between Sunburnt's Biology Team and a pod of Orcas. While spotting a pod in the Sea of Cortez is rare to begin with, biologists witnessed a groundbreaking discovery. Frolicking amongst the orcas was a False Killer Whale (Pseudorca crassidens).
False Killer Whales are a highly social species and having been observed playing and performing sexual acts with the common bottle nosed dolphin, but witnessing one in social structure of orcas is a first.
Sunburnt Cetologist Francoise Hardy took the oppurtunity to dive in with the False Killer Whale, who goes by Billie, for a quick interview. Billie had a lot to say, and it became clear she was an avid supporter of Tony Robbins. Here are her tips on being your best self.
On Imposter Syndrome-
“Create your vision and make it happen. I’m not even a fucking whale. My family is entirely made of dolphins. I’m a dolphin. Named falsely after a whale, who is also a dolphin. I’m a false version of a false version of something. You just have to keep swimming forward. Every Cetacean has a past. The past doesn’t equal the future unless that's where you decide to swim. The only thing that matters is where your swimming and what kind of whale you want to be now.”
On Fitting In-
“Body language is essential. There’s no quicker way to get snuffed out by a pod of sassy orcas than acting like some high strung porpoise. Come in soft, pick out the chillest orca in the pod and mirror their actions, their mannerisms- find their vibes. Before you know it you’re the hot new orca along for the ride.”
On Faking It And Making It-
“It took me forever to kill something. Anything. I couldn’t kill to save my life but I didn’t let that stop me. I kept trying, telling myself and other dolphins that I was a cold blooded killer. Repeat your vision over and over and then one day you wake up and slaughter your first Humpback like you’ve been doing it for a lifetime.”
